DIY fold-out crossfit style home gym

News

With the winter cold taking over, warm, rich, fatty foods are more tempting than ever before, and the length of outdoor walks and runs is melting faster than an ice-cream on a hot summer day. And we get it – there’s few things that will get us out of the warmth and coziness of our homes (and offices), and running is definitely not one of them. To save you the guilt trip after a particularly large plate of nachos during Stranger Things, HomeMadeModern came up with a tutorial for a fold-out home gym for all you craftsmen out there who do not underestimate the satisfaction of a few visible muscles. Here’s how you get ready for the beach season in your very own crossfit home gym:

Step 1: Build the gym

It’s not as difficult as you might think it is, but it’s also not a child’s game either – however, the result is totally worth it. Folded up, it takes about 4 square feet of space on your wall, and takes approximately 8 hours to build, depending on your customizations, working speed and how many helpers you’ve got. This particular gym will accommodate 1 barbell, 8 weight plates, 1 lat pulldown and 1 non-slip workout “stage”, but with a little bit of creativity, you can surely customize the project to your personal needs and workout habits.

Materials: Different size plywood, interior paint, EMT conduit, heavy duty folding brackets (do not save on these – the more heavy duty they are, the better, safer and longer lasting your gym will be), plywood glue, sandpaper, level, different size screws, 2 magnets, exercise padding

Tools: A cordless drill, circular saw, table saw, compound miter saw, palm router, box cutter

Gear: Safety glasses, work gloves

Step 2: Use your gym

The gym is a huge leap forward, however, it’s only like 1/4 way to your new Jason Statham bod’. Use your new crossfit home gym, and see the muscle starting to happen! You can even do that while watching Stranger Things or Rick & Morty, if that’s your kind of thing ?
